How much food for a party?
The right amount of party food depends on the time of day, how long the event runs, and whether you're serving a full meal or just snacks. This party food calculator uses standard catering portions per guest, then adjusts for event length.
Rules of thumb per guest
- Full meal — ~½ lb main protein, 2 sides, 4 appetizer bites, 1 dessert
- Heavy appetizers (no meal) — 10–14 pieces per person
- Light bites & drinks — 5–6 pieces per person
Don't forget
Offer a vegetarian option, plan for ice and drinks separately, and round up for hearty eaters. It's always better to have a little extra than to run short.
